Laser therapy is one of the many pain management and healing options that we have available for our patients, providing a non-invasive alternative to oral or injected pain medications or surgery. Laser therapy does not even require that we clip or shave any of your pet’s fur. How does it work? A beam of laser light deeply penetrates tissue without causing any damage, inducing a biological response called photo-bio-modulation in your pet’s cells. The effect is reduced pain, reduced inflammation, and increased speed of healing. Laser therapy has been scientifically proven to be successful in treating post-surgical pain, as well as many acute and chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis, joint disease and hip dysplasia; skin problems such as hot spots and lick granulomas; ear infections; wounds; and sprains or strains. The potential benefits to you and your pet are almost endless!
You can see how laser therapy impacts healing at the cellular level in this animated video from Companion Therapy Laser:
Laser treatment protocols will vary based on the individual pet and the condition being treated. You may notice that your pet feels better after the first one or two treatments as pain and inflammation are reduced. For example: better mobility for joint conditions, drying and healing of dermatological issues, faster healing for wounds and incisions, or your pet just playing with a toy for the first time in months . In other cases, a series of regular treatments over the course of several weeks or months may be necessary before you see results, due to the severity or complexity of the condition. Each pet is different, and treatments are unique for your pet’s specific needs. The added bonus is that laser therapy has no known side effects, and it is extremely well tolerated by pets, as you can see in the photos below!
